Samuel Gaulding was the son of John of New Kent Gaulding. Some of his children were Quakers. This does not prove that Samuel’s children were following in the religious traditon of their grandparents John Gaulding and Anne Stewart, but it does provide some support for Laura Gaulden’s statement that the first Gaulding in this country were Quakers who first settled in Chester, Pennsylvania before moving to Virginia.
SAMUEL GAULDING, the son of John "of New Kent" Gaulding and Mary Anne Stewart was born about 1732 in St Peters, New Kent, Virginia, USA (3) Samuel was orphaned at a young age. His mother died in 1735 in New Kent, Virginia and his father died before 1742, probably in Goochland, Virginia. In 1742 he was apprenticed to Thomas Edwards to learn the trade of Carpentry. "Goochland Oct. 1742 Court Case: 'Ordered that Churchwardens of St. James Parish do bind Saml. Gauling, and Orphan boy, to Thos. Edwards, a carpenter.” This took place in St. James Northam Parish, Goochland, Virginia. He died in 1785 in Campbell County, Virginia (2) and his will was probated on 6 October 1785 in Campbell County, Virginia. (Gaulding Origins, C Gauldin)
On December 28, 1764 he married Elizabeth Turner. "Galden, Samuel & Elizabeth Turner 28 Dec. 1764". "28 Dec 1764; Galden, Samuel, & Elizabeth Turner 28 Dec. 1764" There is still the question whether Elizabeth Turner m. Samuel Gaulding and Elizabeth Turner m. Joseph Walker of Bacon Hall are the same person. They are probably not the same person, therefore Elizabeth Turner's parentage has still not been determined. Archibald Gaulding* 1754-1785
Anne Elizabeth Gauldin 1764-1855 - She married John Stewart and they were both Quakers. His parents have not been determined, but there apparently was a man named THOMAS STEWARD, who was of Westbury-on-Severn. John “of New Kent” Gaulding, her direct ancestor and the immigrant married Anne (Stewart) and they may have been in Westbury on Severn. (Needs investigation)

Martha "Patty" Gaulding*^ 1765-1850 - She married Benoni Carter Talley and they were both Quakers. The Tally family were all Quakers.
Kesiah Gaulding*^ 1766-1786
Lucy Gaulding*^ 1768-1800 - She married George Webb and they were both Quakers as were the rest of his family.
There are multiple entries related to the surname “Gaulding” in the Quaker records in Campbell County, Virginia but I’ve as yet to find direct links to Quaker records in England.
